June 11, 2013—Harvard’s Library Lab, which enhances knowledge and library services with generous support from the Arcadia Fund, will launch its Showcase Year in December 2013. The Showcase Year will involve refining coding and development, creating documentation, sharing projects across Harvard and with other institutions, usability testing and comprehensively documenting the Library Lab program and process. The Showcase Year will also initiate the final year of funding for the Library Lab from the Arcadia Fund grant.

June 4, 2013—In response to feedback from the library community, enhancements to the search widget on the Library portal will go live on Thursday, June 6, 2013.
These changes are designed to provide more intuitive access to frequently used resource categories and major resources within those categories, and resulted from feedback received by library users and library staff members. Proposed changes were incorporated into two rounds of usability testing with cross-disciplinary samples of undergrads, graduate students, faculty and staff.
Changes to the left menu:
- Making “Books” the default tab and listing it first
- Moving the “E-Resources” tab up and re-labeling it “All E-Resources”

The deadlines noted in the document are for the Shared Services organization, including acquisitions performed by Information and Technical Services (ITS). For collections acquisitions that are performed by Schools and all other School library functions, please refer to deadlines set by School finance offices.

June 3, 2012—Harvard recently joined DataCite, a not-for-profit organization that aims to establish easier access to research data on the Internet, increase acceptance of research data as legitimate, citable contributions to the scholarly record and support data archiving that will permit results to be verified and repurposed for future study.
Other members of DataCite include the British Library, the German National Library of Science and Technology and the California Digital Library (CDL).
