| Access Information: | The library exists for the faculty and students of the Graduate School of Design, and for all members of the Harvard University community. It welcomes use by other scholars with research needs in the library's primary areas. Alumni, visiting scholars and design professionals are permitted on-site use of the collections upon application at the Circulation Desk.
Admittance to Gund Hall and the Frances Loeb Library requires a Harvard ID or FLL Access Card. Visitors may apply for FLL Access cards the Circulation desk between 9-5 Monday-Friday (at other times access to the building is restricted). A fee of $10 is charged for access (which can be waived for visitors with other academic I.D's or affiliated with other Harvard programs). |
| Circulation Policy: | Library materials circulate outside the library
to all members of the Harvard University community upon
presentation of a proper identification card. Special Borrowing privileges are available to alumni and scholars for a fee. The standard loan period is four weeks with exceptions for periodicals (one day) and some other classes of material. Materials
can be renewed in person or through HOLLIS. Fines: Overdue reserve items $1.00 per hour, $25.00 maximum; Circulating books: $ .25 per day, Periodicals:$ .50 per day, Maximum fine per item: $15.00
Recalled items $2.00 per day after recall due date, maximum $28.00 in addition to other fines |
| Holdings Description: | Summary description of collection: Books, periodicals, slides, videotapes, some maps, plans, etc. related to architecture, landscape architecture and urban design.
MATERIALS NOT HELD:Collections of plans of buildings.
Size of collection: 252,000 volumes (books and periodicals), 136,000 slides, about 21,000 maps.
Expanded description of collection: The library contains research-level collections
in the design fields, including modern architecture,
urban planning and design, construction technology, landscape,
park and garden design, and computer graphics. Special collections
include the papers of Arthur Coleman Comey, Charles Eliot,
Arthur Shurcliffe, J.C. Olmsted, Charles Mulford Robinson,
Josep Lluis Sert, the Cluny collection (Kenneth Conant),
the CIAM collection and the Le Corbusier research collection.

| Services: | The Loeb Library offers a complete array of access services, including special library privileges; circulation and billing; course reserves; interlibrary lending; and interlibrary borrowing (for GSD affiliates only). Reference services include the reference desk, staffed Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and instruction in use of library e-resources for groups and individuals by prior arrangement (libref@gsd.harvard.edu). |

| Directions: | Gund Hall is located at the corner of Quincy Street and Cambridge Street, opposite Memorial Hall and the Sackler Museum. The Library entrance is on the first floor of Gund Hall, just inside the building entrance. |
