Access Information:Officers of Harvard are permitted to use the library after receiving a visitor's card from the appropriate Director of Studies (call 202-339-6490 Mon-Fri, 9-5). Qualified outside scholars must request a visitor's card in advance of arrival. Visitor status is normally extended to scholars who hold doctoral degrees in Byzantine or medieval, Pre-Columbian, or Landscape Studies, or an M.A. in Landscape Architecture; and to currently enrolled doctoral students who have satisfied all course requirements and are writing dissertations in these fields. A candidate should submit a statement indicating the nature of the proposed research, a recommendation from a recognized authority in the relevant field, and evidence that the material requested is not available elsewhere in the Washington area. Scholars who do not qualify for visitor status according to the above criteria, but are working on a research project relevant to one of the three programs, may apply to the appropriate Director of Studies for special consideration. See www.doaks.org/research.html for more details.
