Arnold Arboretum Horticultural Library (Jamaica Plain)
The Arnold Arboretum Horticultural Library in Jamaica Plain (JP) is a specialized research collection devoted to the
study of woody plants. Major collections held by the Library include horticulture, North Temperate zone floras, dendrology,
plant taxonomy, forestry, cultural landscapes studies, plant pathology, monographic works on plant families and holdings on
other botanic gardens and arboreta. The collections contain more than 35,000 volumes, 25,000 photographs, and an archive that
documents the Arboretum's history and is a repository for other 19th, 20th, and 21st century horticultural and botanical collections.
Arnold Arboretum Horticultural Library holdings are part of the combined collections of the Botany Libraries located in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, at the Harvard University Herbaria. The Arboretum titles held at the Botany Libraries in Cambridge are identified
as: Botany Arnold: (Cambr).

Botany Libraries
- The Library of the Gray Herbarium numbers more than 63,000 volumes and 455 periodical titles. The collection specializes in botanical history, floras of the new world, and Linnaeana and pre-Linnean sources. In 1954 the Gray collection was merged with the research materials from the Library of the Arnold Arboretum. With its emphasis on old world plants this merging helped make Harvard's botany collections extremely comprehensive. Systematic botany is the emphasis of this collection.
- The Farlow Library specializes in works on fungi, algae, mosses, and lichens (lower plants/cryptogamic botany). It currently numbers more than 65,000 volumes and over 100 current journals in many languages.
- The Economic Botany Library holds works on human uses of plants, especially for food, drugs, fuels; history of plant use; some agricultural; and ethnobotany. The collection numbers more than 32,000 volumes and over 170 periodical titles.
- The Orchid Library Orchid holds volumes on orchids, and orchidology. The collection includes more than 5,000 volumes of books and journals.
The Botany Libraries are part of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology.

Chemistry and Chemical Biology Library
The main emphasis is on primary literature published in journals. In addition the library collects graduate textbooks, monographs and serials in the fields of inorganic
and bioinorganic chemistry, organic and bioorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology and some material in the fields of molecular biology, physics, and surface science.
The library holds approximately 55,000 volumes and 400 active serials titles.

Countway Library of Medicine
The Countway Library of Medicine collects materials in clinical medicine, the biomedical sciences, dentistry and public health. The Library is historically
very strong in the clinical specialties, physiology and pathology. In addition, current collecting emphasis is placed on the fields of social medicine, health
policy, epidemiological & statistical health resources, and the following basic sciences: molecular biology, microbiology and virology, pharmacology,
genetics, cell biology, neurobiology, and biochemistry. The Collection consists of some 680,000 volumes. The Library's collection currently contains
over 210,000 book titles and approximately 3000 journal titles.

Information Center
The Environmental Information Center provides reference and instructional services
regarding environmental collections and electronic resources at Harvard University.

Harvard Forest Library
Subjects in collection include forestry, ecology, environmental science, hydrology, plant physiology, and soil science.
Types of materials include include soil surveys, USDA publications, periodicals (U.S. and foreign), maps, forest management, forestry research,
forest ecology, forest economics, forest soils, and tree physiology. The collection also contains climatological and U.S. Naval Observatory data
and FAO material. There are 24,500 volumes and approximately 150 periodicals. The Harvard Forest Library is part of the Faculty of Arts and
Sciences.

Ernst Mayr Library of the Museum of Comparative Zoology
The Ernst Mayr Library collects works in the fields of systematic zoology, general zoology (comparative anatomy and physiology), organismal biology, biodiversity, conservation biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, marine biology, biological oceanography, ethology, and paleontology. In addition, the library has an extensive early natural history collection, as well as Special Collections consisting of many old and rare volumes including the papers of Louis Agassiz and others associated with the Museum, and natural history art. The archives of the MCZ are also here. There are 109,000 monographs and 2223 currently received serial titles.
The Library is part of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology.

Primate Center Library
The Primate Center Library supports the Harvard Medical School. The library contains a comprehensive collection of monographs, journals,
newsletters and bibliographies in the area of primatology. There is basic coverage of veterinary, laboratory animal and biomedical
research material. The collection contains a selection of resources relevant to the various disciplines of the research conducted at the
Primate Reseach Center including Behavioral Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, Neuroscience, Pathology and Tumor Virology with
a strong emphasis on infectious diseases including AIDS. The library is also a participant in the outreach programs of the Regional Primate
Centers Program, National Center for Research Resources, the National Institutes of Health providing increased access to primatology resources.

Merged collections of the Harvard College Observatory and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Library. Collects serials, monographs,
charts, atlases, photographic plates, ephemerides, conferences proceedings, and preprints which relate to all aspects of astronomy and astrophysics,
including infrared, radio, x-ray, gamma-ray, and ultraviolet; cosmology; stars; cosmic rays; astronomical spectroscopy; gravitation; optics; interfeometry;
astronomical instruments and telescopes; and the histry of astronomy. Collection of early observatory publications is considered to be one of the most
comprehensive in the world.
