Winter Storm Warning

January 1, 2014

Winter Storm Warnings will be issued for all of southern New England.

SNOW

Snow begins late tonight with heaviest snow Thursday night into early Friday.  An inch or two is possible for the Thursday morning commute, especially north of the Mass Pike, with 2-5” accumulation by late Thursday. By the Friday morning commute, we can expect 6-10” of widespread snow accumulation with areas in eastern Massachusetts receiving 10-14” of snow.  The snow will have relatively low water content and will be of a fluffy consistency.

WIND

The wind will be strongest Thursday night into Friday morning with wind gusts over 40 mph possible across eastern Massachusetts. Strong winds could bring near blizzard like conditions with drifting and blowing snow significantly reducing visibilities Thursday night into early Friday.

TEMPERATURES

Wind Chill Advisories will likely be needed Thursday night through Friday night with wind chills reaching around 15 below zero in the Boston-Providence corridor.  Frozen pipes in buildings will be a risk.
